How it works

r is the nominal annual percentage rate divided by 1,200; m is the number of months. Deposits are equal and interest compounds monthly. At zero interest, maturity equals deposit × months.

Maturity = deposit × ((1 + r)^m − 1) ÷ r; multiply by (1 + r) for start-of-month deposits.

A worked example

Depositing 1,000 at the end of each month for 2 months at 12% nominal annual interest gives 2,010: the first deposit earns 10 and the second earns no interest before maturity.
