How it works
A percentage means a fraction out of one hundred. Convert the percentage to a decimal, then multiply it by the original amount.
Result = amount × percentage ÷ 100
A worked example
15% of 240 is 240 × 0.15 = 36. For a 15% tip on a bill of 240, the tip is 36 and the bill plus tip is 276.
